CLOT STOP is a simple, ready to use risk assessment that gives an indication of the likelihood of you developing a blood clot if you are admitted to hospital or plan to undertake long distance travel. A blood clot is the single most common cause of death in hospitalised patients. By answering some simple questions CLOT STOP will estimate if you are at high risk of a clot. If you are at high risk and you are being admitted to hospital you can ask the admitting doctor or nurse to perform a formal risk assessment and arrange for you to have treatment to reduce your risk. CLOT STOP is not a medical device and it does not replace formal risk assessment when you are admitted to hospital but it will empower you by acting as a prompt to make sure appropriate steps are taken by healthcare workers. If you are travelling CLOT STOP will give you advice regarding measures to take to reduce your risk of a travel-related clot. CLOT STOP has been designed with professional healthcare input and is based on national and international models of risk assessment with reference to current best clinical practice. Prevention of hospital acquired blood clots is the number one health care safety priority in many countries. Travel-associated blood clots have been highlighted by many high profile cases in the media.
Disclaimer – Whilst the phone application is designed with reference to risk
assessment models actually used by healthcare professionals it is not a
medical device and it is not a substitute for standard professional health care. Consequently, the sole
purpose of the ap is to raise your awareness of a potentially preventable
problem and to enable you to raise the awareness of health care professionals
of your concerns and desire for best possible care. In the case of
travel-related clots the evidence base on which risk assessment is made is not
as refined as for hospital-acquired clots and so the assessment should be
regarded as a rough guide. If CLOT STOP indicates you are at high risk you should
consider seeking professional advice from your doctor. Whilst the advice and
information in CLOT STOP is believed to be true and accurate at the time of
